HTC has finally released their new product, the Vive Flow, with a retail price of only $499. The information was leaked early along with pictures of the new product, and they were all correct. The new Vive Flow is a headset that is smartphone compatible and made specifically for the consumption of media. The company, HTC, has also revealed that they have a new platform named Viveport Verse for their customers to gain access to content to view with the new Vive Flow.

The company has stated that the Vive Flow is all about relaxation and mental health. HTC wants users to utilize the Vive Flow to improve their mental health. With a dual hinge design, this new product fits most heads comfortably and weighs only a meager 189 grams.

Users will be able to enjoy meditation with apps like TRIPP, connect with friends and colleagues using Vive Sync, and even watch movies using Miracast, all from their smartphones.

The Vive Flow has a 3.2K resolution (2x 2.1” LCD 1600×1600 per eye), a 75 Hz refresh rate, and a 100-degree field of view. Even if you wear glasses you can enjoy the Vive Flow because it has built-in diopters that are adjustable up to -6.0D.

Some more features included are 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, an active cooling system, 6DoF tracking, stereo speakers and is compatible with external power sources when not being used with a smartphone. HTC has a power bank, 10,000 mAh, that is sold separately. The internal battery will last approximately 5 minutes when not connected to a power source.

The Vive Flow does not have any controllers. Users will, however, be able to use their phones like a 3DoF controller. The product is wholly based on phone connectivity. You can use it to select an app, or you can screencast and watch media on the headset. For the time being these features are only offered on Android devices.

The CEO of HTC, Cher Wang, has talked about the Vive Flow and their goals. She mentions that HTC is actually helping technology go in a new direction, focusing more on how we feel rather than what we do. Over the past years, maintaining our wellness has taken a front seat for many people, and the stress we all feel on a daily basis has increased. Therefore, it’s more important now than ever to find the time to calm our minds. She feels that the VIVE Flow will deliver this opportunity to people to escape the day-to-day stresses and cubicles or four walls surrounding us, to immerse ourselves in a much calmer environment.

In addition, the CEO mentioned that many things we already do could be enhanced by a device that would comfortably fit in our pocket; such things like virtual brain training, streaming our favorite tv shows, meditation and even gentle stretching. She finished with, “VIVE Flow represents the next evolution of technology, as we take a more holistic view of how we can make life better.”

There will also be a subscription through Viveport available to users for £5.29 GBP a month for VIVE Flow compatible content.
